Welcome to April’s edition of the Buzz from the Hub! This edition of the Buzz is coming to you later than usual due to our 2025 National Parent Center Conference last week! We hope everyone who was able to attend had a great time and was able to fully enjoy the learning and networking opportunities.

Family Voices National Study: Experiences of Parents Seeking Emergency Care for Injured Children with Special Health Care Needs

Family Voices is conducting a study to improve the injury care of children and youth with special health care needs. The objectives of the study are to:

  • Develop a better understanding of family caregiver experiences related to seeking emergency care for children with special health care needs and
  • Identify aspects of patient care that family caregivers think are likely to be affected by special health care needs status.

Family Voices is looking for family caregivers who:

  • are at least 18 years old and
  • take care of a child less than 19 years old with special health care needs who visited the hospital for an injury within the past 12 months.

 What You Can Expect:

  • Short background survey (5-10 minutes)
  • 30–45-minute interview via phone or Zoom
  • Responses will be kept confidential
  • Opt out or skip questions at any time
  • Receive a $50.00 gift card for your time

Youth Leadership Forum

The Youth Leadership Forum is accepting applications for Summer 2025! This year, YLF is open for young adults with disabilities, ages 18-30 with any kind of disability. Priority acceptance will be offered to participants of the MassAbility NextGen Careers program, as well as new participants to YLF!

The IDD Toolkit: Tools to Enhance Health Care for Adults w/ Intellectual Developmental Disabilities

The IDD Toolkit, is an online resource aimed at primary care clinicians as well as mental health providers to ease the health disparities that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities often experience. The tools are based on consensus guidelines and include several tools for individuals with disabilities, their family members, and their support persons to use to improve health care, clinic visits, and hospital stays.
