In September 2024, several Region B states and Parent Centers (Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia) experienced catastrophic damage from Hurricane Helene. Resources provided here include state and local organizations to which donations may be made to support recovery efforts. Check back often for updates!

Thanks to Region B (RPTAC Region B) for pulling together this list of resources.

North Carolina:

There are organizations that have boots on the ground and are distributing supplies to the NC mountains.

  • Operation Airdrop  is collecting donated supplies and air lifting them from small airports around the state and directly into Asheville and then they set up distribution from there.
  • World Central Kitchen has set up in local restaurants and is offering fresh meals. This is the organization started by Chef Jose Andres in 2010 after the earthquake in Haiti. They are currently set up in NC, TN, GA, and FL, so they are helping several of our Southeastern States.
  • Samaritan’s Purse is another organization that has boots on the ground in several locations that have been hit by Helene.
  • Mountain Mule Packers and Cajun Navy are taking supplies by pack mules into the area that currently have no road access. Mountain Mule Packers is a tactical training business and it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to donate to them, but this is what the Cajun Navy (or Pinnacle Search and Rescue is their new name) does and there are ways to donate to their efforts.

  • North Carolina Disaster Relief Funddonations will go to nonprofit groups working to meet storm victims’ immediate needs, like food and water, cleaning supplies and other emergency supplies.

South Carolina:

In South Carolina, the One SC Fund directs donations to local nonprofits that provide disaster relief and recovery, according to a spokesperson for Gov. Henry McMaster. The state’s Emergency Management Division also has information for people interested in volunteering, donating clothes or giving to food banks.

Florida:

The Florida Disaster Fund said it distributes donations to service organizations that help people with disaster response and recovery.

Virginia:

Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management is collecting donations for the state’s disaster relief fund. The agency said the fund provides organizations with grants to help residents recover from disasters and emergencies.

Georgia:

Georgia’s Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency was collecting information from people who want to volunteer to help recovery efforts in the state. The agency also has an application for organizations that want to provide in-kind donations.

  • Send Relief is a nonprofit group in Georgia that has activated response sites across the affected regions. Donations to Send Relief supply meals, water, temporary roofing and flood recovery supplies to those sites.

Tennessee:

  • Tennessee Department of the Military has a comprehensive list of updates and resources and geographical locations where donations can be made.
  • East Tennessee Foundation (ETF) is a public charity and community foundation created by and for the people of East Tennessee. Exclusively aiding East Tennessee, this fund provides prompt and effective grants to empower local nonprofits and agencies to rescue and recover their own communities amid devastating impacts from Hurricane Helene.
  • Tennessee Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster is a consortium of recognized state voluntary organizations, governmental agencies, and others with an interest in, and/or who are active in disaster relief. Its mission is to foster through cooperation in mitigation and response, more effective service to people affected (imperiled or impacted) by disasters.
