This Alliance action sheet defines and explains the function of a succession plan for a parent center. The responsibilities of the executive director and other key personnel are vitally important to the stability of an organization. Recognizing this, a board of directors may request the executive director to develop a succession plan. This document shows how, handled in a thoughtful way, the transition to new key staff is an opportunity to review key priorities, determine what new skills and experiences are needed, and explore new opportunities for growth, expansion, and restructuring.
