(2017, September 14) | Useful to Parent Centers, professionals, and families in understanding and responding to childhood trauma.
A national survey of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) indicate that nearly half of all children in the United States have experienced one or more serious traumatic events by the time they are 18 (National Survey of Children’s Health, 2012).
How can we address this growing problem and its impacts on young children? In Part One of this two-part webinar series, Dr. Patsy Carter, Director of Children’s Clinical Services and Trauma Lead at the Department of Mental Health in Missouri, introduces the concept of trauma and its prevalence among young children. The impact of trauma on brain functioning and development are examined, as well the IDEA of trauma-informed organizations.
